Well the summer is coming to an end. Not technically, but summer vacation ends officially next week when the boys go back to school on Wednesday. This summer has been one of my favorite. The highlight so far was definitely the trip to the Grand Canyon. What better way to start off a vacation than that!?
The boys, I think, are ready to go back to school. They're starting to get a little mouthy and showing a little 'tude. To me that's a sure sign that they are bored and in desperate need of some schoolin'! They will be starting a new school this year because the school they went to last year only goes to fourth grade and since Abe will be in fifth grade they would have been going to two separate schools. So they both get to go to a country school about 20 minutes away. It also starts an hour before their old school so they (and me) are going to need to get going early in the morning. They are early birds so hopefully this won't really be a problem. Right now, during the summer, they are getting up at six so they can play video games before everyone else wakes up. I do my job as a mom, though, and just worry about how they will adjust in a new school. Hopefully well!
I think Lucy is getting a little tired of sharing me too. It seems like towards the end of the past two summers she's gotten a little grumpy and is more apt to fall apart at the slightest things. I'm pretty sure it's because of the lack of attention (at least on my part) that she's receiving. She gets plenty of attention from the boys. Unfortunately most of it comes in the form of teasing. Although I don't condone it, I like to think it's going to toughen her up when she's older?
Kate has really grown and gained some skills the last couple of months. A couple of weeks ago she finally figured out how to crawl. The first day she was crawling she got into the two plants that were sitting on the floor. And I remembered all the dangers that can befall a crawling baby!! Since then, though, she hasn't been too adventurous, mainly sticking to one room, nourishing herself with all the bits and peices left by the vacuum. She's also taken to saying, "Hi, dada" and waving or doing it as well as a ten month old can. I think it's a really cute trick. Now if we can only get her to say "mama". On second thought maybe I can wait. One more kid saying, "MOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!!" is not really that appealing. She can stick with just saying "dada" for now!
