This weekend we had a surprising cold front move in. I say surprising because the temperature didn't get over 27 on Saturday and Sunday and it was raining/misting/sleeting the whole two days. Can you say "BRRRRRR!!!!" Luckily we picked what was left of the garden which included another boatload of jalapeno peppers and 16 watermelon!!!! No, that's not a typo! SIXTEEN watermelons. I'm guessing the majority of them will not be ripe so we're thinking we might carve them instead of pumpkins this year for Halloween.
I have to say though that I love this fall/winter weather. It means fall/winter food!!!! You know me, it's all about the food. I made chicken noodle soup with dumplings yesterday and I even whipped out a double batch of homemade rolls. And as if that weren't enough, after the kids went to bed, I made Apple Streusel Bars from ourbestbites.com. They were pretty good, not fantastic, but pretty good. They were also better cold than fresh out of the oven. I would post pictures, but I very smartly sent the half that hadn't been eaten to work with my husband.
