Yesterday we took a day trip to Denver. It was a very long day. We got back at 1:00 this morning, so when I was awakened at 4:30 by Lucy, I was not exactly thinking straight. Or even hearing straight. It was one of those moments that most people don't look forward to. You know, you're dead asleep and you open your eyes and find a little person right next to you looking at you. Thankfully this was not a horror movie moment, and the little person was Lucy and not an evil leprechaun.
She kept saying, " Can you go to the car and get my money?". To which I replied, "huh?....get your money? what money?"
Lucy: Can you get my money?
Me: Can I give you money in the morning? (thinking very groggily what money is she talking about?)
Lucy: My money is in the car.
Me: Go back to bed Lucy. We'll get your money in the morning.
At this point I realize she's not going to go back to bed by herself so I get out of bed and start walking her back to her room. Finally, on the way back to her room I realize that she's not saying "money" but, instead, is asking for her stuffed "bunny" because she was scared in her room without it. I was kind of relieved not to have a conversation on materialism with my four year old at 4:30 in the morning.
