Busy year, weird week

I have to preface this post by saying how one of my pet peeves is people who just overschedule their lives and then complain about how they never have any time. So now that I've complained about it I'm going to commit the same sin. It seems like ever since Christmas my year has been non-stop crazy busy. This year I have already gone to two wedding receptions, three baptisms, and had two friends who have had babies. In the next four months there will be one? more wedding reception and four? more babies born.
This week alone has been one weird, at-times chaotic, and very crazy week. It all started last Friday morning when I got a call from a funeral home about a sister in our ward who passed away(I didn't know her, though). They were looking for Kaleb, he's the bishop (like a pastor) of our ward, so they needed to arrange some things for the funeral. That began a string of calls to pass on information between Kaleb and others or vice versa. I've joked with Kaleb several times that I'm not his secretary, and if I am I need a pay raise. Friday night we also had the missionaries over to teach an investigator a discussion about the church that turned out to be a very interesting experience. Saturday we went to watch Abe perform a short play for an upcoming competition and also bought a shelf for our food storage. Sunday was actually a fairly restful day. Monday I went on visits with Relief Society and had our presidency meeting. Monday night Lucy woke up puking and proceeded to do so two more times during the night. She was looking fine Tuesday, but I decided to keep her home from preschool just to be safe. Tuesday was also the day of the funeral and I was kind of glad to have a "sick" kid because it gave me an excuse to stay home and knock off some of the ginormous laundry pile that had been building. I was also glad to not have to help feed the 145 people (Yes, I said 145!!!!) who were expecting lunch after the funeral. I felt really bad that I didn't help out. (kind of) Then had parent teacher conferences with Abe and Cy's teachers which went okay, not great, but okay. After parent-teacher conferences I came home just as the kid's were finishing their cereal for dinner (Yes, it's official, I've finally become one of those moms). I helped put the kids to bed, fed Kate, and was off to my WW meeting (more on that on a later post). When I got home Cy was awake and moaning in pain with an earache and continued to do so until about midnight when I was exhausted and sent him to bed anyway (he fell asleep almost immediately).
Wednesday I did a mad dash to finish cleaning before playgroup . I'm always amazed at how much cleaning needs done even when I think the house is not that dirty. Then I made up some pizza dough for the playgroup lunch and made pizzas while everyone was arriving. After yesterday, though, I've decided that if I'm hosting it's REALLY okay to get something premade!!! Just before playgroup started at 11:00 I get a call from the boys' school saying that Cy was complaining of an earache. That morning I had sent him to school because he was feeling better and didn't have a fever. So I went and picked him up and parked him in my room in front of the TV. (He wasn't really that sick since by about 1:00 he was wanting to play outside. I probably should have sent him back to school. Oh well.) I survived playgroup even though Kate cried nonstop for the last 30 minutes because she was just overtired. (I think I'm beginning to know how she felt) I tell you what, though, nothing clears a house faster than a crying baby. Of course, just as the last guest was leaving she fell asleep.
When Kaleb got home yesterday I grabbed a card and bag of candy and went to the hospital for a quick visit to a friend who had just had a baby. Today and tomorrow the kids are out of school for parent-teacher conferences (don't ask me why mine got scheduled for TUESDAY?) Three out of four of my kids has a slight cold accompanied with a cough so I plan on laying low today and tomorrow (we'll see if that actually happens!)
I have also made the dumb mistake of being the ONLY parent to volunteer to put together the boys' school yearbook. All I have to say is: WHY???!!!!!! (If anyone has any experience in this I'd love some tips or good websites?!
So this ends my journaling frenzy. Sorry you had to read through it and hope that next post will be more fun and whine free and more focused!!!! It would be nice if the next post were chronicling a long, extended visit to a tropical beach. I can wish, can't I?
