It snowed, we played, it melted

Lucy playing out in the snow this morning.
This is Cy digging a tunnel in his "fort" which is actually just a tall snow drift.

The weatherman was actually right!! We got a lot of snow yesterday. They say we got about a foot of snow, and in some places in our yard the drifts were about three feet high. Of course the kids were all asking "Can we go outside and play NOW?!!" about every ten minutes. I finally let them around four when the snow and wind had let up a bit. Of course it took at least thirty minutes for them just to get on all their snow gear and I also heard the complaints, "Do I HAVE to wear all these clothes? Why?" But I still made them wear it all and they lasted about twenty minutes outside before I suggested they come inside and they willingly acquiesced (especially after the mention of hot cocoa with marshmallows).
Then after Kaleb got home from work around five I forbade him to shovel snow because I was going a little stir-crazy by then and just wanted to feed the kids and get them to bed and because I was feeling a bit icky and wanted to get a little exercise by shoveling the snow myself, which I did for about three hours (I'm really slow, and that was a really long run-on sentence). I think it was actually my first time heavy duty snow shoveling and it was totally invigorating. I loved it!!! Even though when I woke up this morning I was a wee bit sore. Then about by four this afternoon I looked outside and saw that about half of the snow had already melted. I garauntee that within the next two weeks I'll be back to wearing shorts (or at least capris).

This is what Abe wore outside to play in the snow.

This is what Cy wore outside to play in the snow and partly what Lucy wore outside (she put on more!)

This is what Kate wore inside when the kids went outside. She actually had just made a big blowout in her diaper and I had to completely change her clothes. She looks comfortable, though, doesn't she?
