Today was a pretty memorable day. I was just telling Kaleb not more than two days ago how we were incredibly lucky to not have had any kids have broken bones. Well, lady luck must have heard me and laughed because this morning while we were doing morning chores Lucy came out of my room crying and Cy said that Lucy had fallen off my bed. Apparently Abe had buried himself under the humongous pile of laundry on my bed and Lucy was trying to get off the bed. Abe didn't see her and got up and Lucy tripped over him and fell off the bed and must have hit the wall and then tumbled underneath the bed. (Cy tells it much better and even includes sound effects) At first I didn't even think she was hurt but then I saw Lucy's arm had what looked like a blood blister on the under side of her arm in between her wrist and elbow. I gave her a hug and let her sit on my lap until she stopped crying which took about five minutes then encouraged her to go play.
Only she didn't want to play. She said her arm hurt and all she wanted to do was lay on the couch and watch tv. She was also really sleepy. I let her lay there but then took her and the rest of the crew to my chiropracter appt. and then to our Wednesday playgroup which was at a friend's house where she had one of those cool moonwalks. (I have to say in my defense that I called the pediatrician's office to talk to the nurse before I went to the chiropracter's office and they said she would call back later and talk to me which she didn't do until about noon) Lucy didn't really want to play in the moonwalk and a couple of the other moms there looked at her arm and thought it looked pretty bad too. So I finally called the pediatrician and scheduled an appt. for that afternoon. I then took her to Target to buy diapers (Kate had been wearing THE last diaper in the house for about 3 hours so I knew I had to get that done). Then I took Lucy and boys through the drive-thru at McDonald's for lunch. The idea of McDonald's for lunch briefly put a smile on her face.
So she ate her McDonald's, still not using her arm, and then laid down for a nap. At three I took her in to the dr. and when he looked at it he pretty much knew it was broken. We got x-rays done which confirmed it and then waited for TWO very long hours for the orthopedist to look at the x-rays and then cast it. When we finally got out of there at six we went out to McDonald's for dinner since that was what she wanted. Here are the results of our dramatic and slightly traumatic (both for me and her) day:

The morals of the story:
1. If you even THINK your child has a broken bone take her straight to the doctors office/emergency room!!!!! The only time she really cried was right after it happened. The only way I knew it was bad was because she acted really tired all day (probably a reaction to the pain) and she didn't want to use that arm at all. (Don't be a horrible mother, like me, and second guess yourself and drag her all over town until you finally decide that maybe it IS broken.)
2. McDonald's for lunch and dinner will make just about anything feel a little better.
3. Oh, also don't forget that out of control laundry is not entirely harmless!!!
I'm sure that the "mom guilt" will eat me alive tonight. Why is it always worse right before going to sleep? Hopefully I have learned a valuable lesson and also hopefully I will never to use my own advice. Cross my fingers???

Poor Lucy! I feel so bad for her. I hope that now she can get better and onto healing. I have had several "worst mom" days, things happen to the best of us :)
Um...I thought I won for telling hubby that Lil' Man just had his first cold or allergies when it was RSV. Oh the guilt! Isn't it great that she could have a pink cast {looking for the bright side of things}?
