Okay, doing day after day of posts is getting to be difficult so today I have decided to post on the bum sniff. Every parent of an infant does it(sometimes even parents of toddlers do it). Today I caught myself doing it to Kate. You know what it is. You smell something ripe and you KNOW that your dear child has just pooed in their diaper and yet you have to smell their bum to make sure.
Now there are a couple of different variations on the bum sniff. The first and most popular is the lift and sniff which is most common for parents of infants. Then there is the lean and sniff which can be found mostly in parents of older and more mobile infants or toddlers. After the sniff is done, confirming what the parent already knew, then the act of actually changing the diaper has to be done. My favorite video of dads gagging while changing has circulated the web several times, but can probably be found on youtube fairly easily if you are not familiar with it.
The bum sniff is most effective when a smell is detected in a room full of mobile toddlers and the origin is not known. If this is the situation then the bum sniff will be performed like the wave is done in a sports stadium. It is a good thing that children eventually do learn to go on the toilet because the image of an adult sniffing another adult's bum is kind of disturbing not to mention pretty gross. It's kind of gross to think of all the things parents do without the blink of an eye.

So funny...and true! The dad thing is right on. Shortly after Jamison and I got together I walked in on him changing a particularly ripe diper with a cologne sprayed bandana around his nose and mouth. lol
